Somers Poppies, 9” x 12”, original pastel

I had an opportunity to paint plein air at a local historic home in Somers. I landed on these joyful poppies in the yard as my inspiration. With the sunlight filtering through, some interesting patterns of shadow and highlight were created. As you can see, the light pattern had already changed by the time I was well into the painting but I stuck with my original vision.
